Sign up to the Gym if you Don’t Grill Vegetables!

July 9, 2013 by Amir Aribokill 1 Comment

So last month I had decided to try out a high-end gym. NYSC had a livingsocial special for the month, so I figured I’d give it a shot. I signed up to the gym and gorged in it’s greatness. I love Nautilus machines and NYSC  had a great section. The pool was nice and the showers were clean. Great gym overall, but of course, every gym has its wise assness.

Don't Grill Vegetables

 Sign up to the Gym

I’m a fan of cute, wise-ass messages. Unfortunately, when the message is laced with bullshi’t, it’s not so appealing anymore. This is subject to interpretation, but I bet the intended interpretation has something to do with eating meat. Of course, there is this dogma about saturated fat, calories and obesity. I won’t get into specifics, but there is no scientific evidence to suggest over-eating causes weight gain. In fact, there is not a shred of reliable evidence linking saturated fat to heart disease. So what’s the point of this message?

It’s summer time and everyone is grilling their ribeye steaks in the backyard or a nice park. Many of us are suckered into believing such a diet is responsible for our weight gain and signing up to the gym is the answer………What a load of shi’t……

Grill Meat, Not Vegetables!

Who the Hell wants to grill just veggies anyway? I mean, without butter and salt, most veggies are boring. It’s such a shame that all the health benefits of red meat get clouded by schemers. Butter, salt and meat are suppose to be the bad stuff, yet if you look at all the scientific evidence, it’s the other way around. The nutritional density of animal products is far greater than that of plants. Calories are another big issue. The exercise industry can’t draw people in by telling them to join a gym just to gain strength, it needs enticing bait. Everyone wants to be slimmer, so their message is that exercise should do the trick. Does it? No evidence exists that can show exercise directly influences body fat.

Yes, exercise may help insulin sensitivity and manage where fat is stored, but insulin is the primary regulator of fat tissue. Insulin is a direct response to carbohydrates in the diet. For weight loss, one should be looking at what they’re eating, not the exercise they’re doing.

Exercise Makes you Stronger & Hungrier

That’s right. When you work out hard enough, you will get micro tears in your muscles. The body will demand more energy to replenish what it has expended and repair the damaged tissue. You have no control over this autonomic response. The only thing you can do is listen to your body. It’s a bad idea to think you’re smarter than your body and fight these urges. It’s a good idea to know what type of food to eat in order to complement these urges. This is why a reduced calorie diet with a cardio routine is the worse possible recipe in the gym.

If you decide to sign up to the gym, please don’t let anyone get over on you. Do your research and be in control. I definitely recommend going to the gym. Improving bone density, muscular strength and insulin resistance is enormous. Exercise is a God-send. Unfortunately, it’s not the best route for weight loss.
