Three bad Habits that are keeping you from Success

Not Having a Schedule

Having  schedule is one of the most important foundations to of success. This is because management of our resources is essential to prevent waste. Just imagine what happens when you don’t manage your money and keep track of it? You end up spending and being more wasteful than you would like.

The same can be said for time. Waking up in the morning and not knowing where to start with your day leaves a lot of room time wasting. You might wake up whenever you want, read some emails, watch the news and then find out half your day is gone. Doing what? You didn’t really do anything. You didn’t even get dressed or eat properly.

On the flip side. What if you were to wake up at the same time everyday,  prepare a simple breakfast, shower and getting dressed?
You see what happened there? You had a plan and prioritized your responsibilities. Very little time was wasted and you’re ready to go about your day, whether it’s going to work or just getting things done.

Relying too much on Emotions

What makes us stand above all other creatures on Earth is our ability to think rationally. Unfortunately, so many people are victim to their emotions. Emotional decisions usually only reflect a the short term and are coupled with long term consequences.

Imagine yourself walking into a jewelry store and absolutely falling in love with a watch on display. Finally, you can’t help yourself and you buy it. Three weeks later, you find that you’re unable to pay your rent on time.

This is a very simple example, but many people fall victim to their emotions in other ways. Cutting someone off on the road because they cut you off earlier, not inviting a friend to an event because they didn’t invite you out to one and even doing your job half-assed because your boss was upset at you with something.

These are all small examples of emotionally irrational behavior that is wasteful and downright embarrassing in the long run. Thinking long term and separating your emotions from your actions is really important.

Imagine you move into a new apartment and two weeks later, you can’t stand the music of your next door neighbor. The blast it at weird hours and it’s really loud. Eventually, you become very angry and start banging on their wall. They lower it for a little, but then it gets loud again when a new song comes on.

You end up going to their door, slamming on it and when they open, you lash out with “can you turn the fucking volume down?” At that point, they get offended at your sheer aggression and respond with “don’t come knocking on my door cursing at me!” Now, you’re started a feud because rather than thinking about it rationally, building a relationship with the neighbor and talking about it, you just made the problem worse.

These are the messes people get themselves into because they are too sensitive. Stop creating unnecessary problems for yourself and just let things go. Focus on getting to where you need to get without interfering with anyone’s life.

Not having any long term Goals

So many people come off the assembly line the same way. Go to school, then to college, then get a job. Now what? Do you just go to work for 40 years and try to squeeze in entertainment on your time off? Go to bars on the weekend, blow your money on incomplete vacations and repeat?

Without goals, people usually find themselves lost and depressed. Learning an instrument, losing weight, building muscle, and even competing in a sport or an event are enough to motivate people. If we are not constantly growing and learning, we fall into a spiral of mindless entertainment that often times is less than fulfilling.

Some people all of a sudden wake up and realize that they have no goals. That’s okay. Our society has made college and careers such and ingrained part of it, that a huge piece is missing. One way to help you break out of that slump is to realize that your job and career is not your life, it’s just your source of income. Just like a hunting to a caveman is the means to food, but is not who he is.

Your life doesn’t end when you get a job, it actually JUST began. You have income, now what? How can you use that income to take you to the next level? How can this improve your life? If you can only think of useless junk and mindless entertainment, then you need to broaden your horizon.

Go out and explore different communities. Watch new programs and read different books. The more information you have about the world around you, the more likely you are to grab onto something that you truly connect with and want to grow in/with.
