Everyone Sucks at Everything

May 27, 2014 by Amir Aribokill Leave a Comment

Yeah, I said it. Our social system and the values it creates are pretty inefficient. People live their lives thinking they’re making their own choices and they know how to solve problems. Unfortunately, very few understand science and even fewer can practice science independently of their values. Of course there are times where we don’t have enough information to draw a conclusion so we must use our own judgement, but people like to play detective all the time.

Everyone sucks. There’s nothing cool about trying to figure out something with very little information. Making a game out if it isn’t effective. People don’t have the patience to learn how to breakdown information, gather enough of it, THEN make a decision based on careful analysis. Instead, they hear a few rumors and go off to make a conclusion based on that. There’s nothing impressive about guessing right when you can eliminate guessing altogether.

I guess people need the extra dopamine from guessing recklessly and occasionally getting it right. This is why the lottery and Las Vegas exist. It’s not the individual’s fault that they or everyone else around them sucks. The results of our environment is ineffective people. We think we need to go to school and get a job because that’s how you make a living. Sure, it’s popular, but people just accept it without looking for a more effective way to survive on this planet.

The people we see, the food we eat, none of it is our choice. I have no choice but to speak English and like the clothing that I do. The same way people my age being raised in China have no choice with speaking Chinese and liking the clothing they do.

People judge others based almost exclusively on values and not their effectiveness in society. A prostitute works less hours than an accountant, makes more money and is probably happier on average. Yet, prostitutes are judges based on values, while the accountant is praised even though he/she works more hours, does more work in general and has less control of their finances.

Why is that? Because it’s a value system disorder. People don’t know how to solve problems. To protect their values, they’ll say claims like “prostitution is dangerous and unhealthy!” or other anecdotal hogwash. What about the accountant? What about the long term effects of chronic stress and the unhealthy repetition involved in the job? Not to mention how mind numbing it is. No, those things are brushed aside.

This is by no means a grouchy ass rant, but more so thinking out loud. Let me know what you guys think about society and it produces inefficient people.
