COVID-19, better known as the Corona Virus by main stream media has single-handedly put the entire world on hold. COVID-19 has not only caused a lot of deaths and pain, but many businesses are facing hardship. Some people are able to work from home while others are being laid off. At the end of the day, many feel helpless, trapped at home during lockdown.
There are things that we were once able to do which we no longer can. However, there are also things that we can now do that we weren’t able to before. For example, my other businesses are shut down so I have more time to write now.
Key Points
- Businesses may be closed, but streets and parks are clear
- Having more time at home might help you catch up on housework
- More downtime can allow the extra time to practice mindfulness
- Picking up a new skill like learning an instrument or a language can be easier
- Practicing a better diet might be easier now that there are less fast food choices
- Connecting with friends or relatives that you’ve lost touch with over the years
- Progress in some things while progress in others is forced to halt
Growing With COVID-19

Pick up a Hobby
One way to add some quality to your quarantine is to dust off that old guitar and fire up youtube. Picking up an old hobby can be a fantastic way to relax and bring something meaningful to your idle time.
You can even learn a new hobby. How about picking up chess and competing online? It might lead down a rabbit hole of new friends via a new community.
Learning a new Skill
This extra idle time can be useful in learning a new skill. Picking up a new language is easier than ever in this media age. There are plenty of apps to help with learning a language and some apps that help you even find a tutor.
Dancing and yoga are also popular for those stuck at home. How about learning some nice moves for the dance floor? That way when this is all set and done, you’ll be ready to get out there and kill it. Imagine seeing your peers after quarantine with a new set of skills. Impressive if you ask me.
Improving your Health
The one might not seem as intuitive as the last two, but it actually might be easier to improve your health under COVID-19 lockdown. In today’s fast paced environment, it’s easy to grab a bagel or a slice of pizza on the way to work. Being stuck at home might give you the room you need to explore cooking and preparing your own food. Going on a better diet will not only improve your immune system, but it’ll make you feel better.
Imagine coming out of quarantine 50lbs lighter and 50% firmer in all the right places. Now that’s a Hell of a way to make a comeback.
Emerging back into Society
When it’s all set and done, just think about what your debut into society will be like. Do you want to emerge out into the world and the only thing you have to show for it is that you’re a few months older?
How about emerging with a new set of skills, a new language learned, stronger, leaner and healthier? If we can use these unique circumstances to work on parts of our lives that we weren’t always able to and emerge stronger, we will definitely have a head start when this whole COVID-19 lock down is phased out.
Stay safe out there everyone!
