Ayran is a middle eastern drink made from yogurt. It’s a cold beverage served on really hot days to cool people off. It’s full of sodium, protein, fat and other great minerals. Ayran is a good drink to have before working out to stay hydrated and energized. It’s also a good drink to have after the gym to replenish exercise or have as a protein shake. You can even mix in protein powder and creatine to get more desired effects!
Ayran Recipe Needs
- Full Fat Plain Yogurt
- Salt (Sea Salt prefferebly)
- Garlic Clove
- Water
- Empty Container
- Ice
- Protein Powder (optional)
- Creatine (Optional)
Garlic & Salt
Use a mortar & pestel to crush up the garlic and salt together. You’re going to add a tablespoon of salt and a clove of garlic. You can always add ingredients to taste. Some people like more salt and some like more garlic.
Water & Yogurt
Add water and yogurt to a container. You’re going to use half the water to the amount of yogurt you have. A serving is one cup of yogurt and a half cup of water. Two servings would be two cups of yogurt and a cup of water. Add the garlic and salt into the container and stir. This is the time to add creatine or protein powder if you wish to do so.
Put the ice and Shake
The last step to the Ayran is to put a few cubes of ice into the container to add mass and shake vigorously for about a minute. This breaks up all the solids inside the yogurt and makes it a smooth drink.
Final Notes
This is best drank cool. Add ice and enjoy. Just like orange juice, make sure to shake it before drinking every time you take it out of the fridge.
Nice blog, Amir! I’ve been low carbing for a while, but did not realize the difference between lactose in milk and lactate in Greek yogurt. I’ve heard of people putting Greek yogurt in a coffee filter in the fridge to make higher protein yogurt “cheese”. My problem here is finding full fat Greek yogurt. Do you ever make your own? Cheers, Johnny
