Let me start out by saying all lives matter! Instead of the “Black lives matter” movement, why not have a “lives matter” movement? That would make more sense and address all unjust actions as a whole. Wouldn’t that unite and invite all people victim to police brutality, prejudice and hate crimes?
A very important note about all movements like this is method. The actions of a few have no association to a category of people. If a few black people commit crimes, not every black person is a criminal. That’s very important to understand.
On the other side of this coin, if there are cops who overreact and kill a black person, not all cops or white people are murderers. That’s very important to understand as well.
Trying to solve a problem by using the same line of thinking that caused another problem, isn’t an effective solution.
So what’s the real problem? Saying that people are not being treated fair isn’t really worth bringing up. It isn’t the “What” that needs to be addressed, it’s the “why”.
Why are people targeting, accusing or afraid of black people?
This question is the most important question to ask because it addresses the roots of the behavior that is undesirable in the community.
Obviously, there are stereotypical traits that certain religions, races etc are categorized under. That type of social conditioning is a great places to start looking. After all, people can’t be held accountable for subconscious associations their brain creates from past experiences and exposure to.
Maybe if school stops teaching us that in history, there have been black problems, native American problems, Asian problems and Mexican problems, we won’t start creating there associations in our heads.
Maybe if we are not asked about our nationalities or where our families are from, no one will care. We might not be put in any category by our peers, other than American classmates.
Social engineers may have better hypothesis’ than I do, but one thing is clear, this isn’t a problem that can be solved by flipping a light switch. Prejudice has its roots too and those will take a few generations of re-engineering to completely go away.
Everyone needs the basics. Food, shelter, water and a sense of belonging. If we just focus on working together to make an abundance of all of the above, then we’ll be closer to not letting our dark history shape a reactive future for us.
We will just have to be patient and start removing the separating ideals out of our society as soon as possible. In the meantime, lets all work together towards a world of abundance for all.
