The bill has passed to take down the confederate flag in South Carolina. Some see it as a symbol of our history, some feel like its a racist reminder. Now it’ll be gone and everyone is happy I guess. No more shootings will happen. Right?
I mean, was that their logic? “The shooter, Dylann Roof went on a rampage, so lets take down the flag, that way it will never happen again!”. Oh okay, so it looks like the confederate flag talked to Dylann and told him to commit the crime.
Seriously, people who don’t know how to solve problems are just bitching in order to feel better that something was done. Nothing important because, the flag being removed doesn’t do anything for anyone except get a few “ahhh’s” here and there.
If they really want to do something about crime and racism in America, maybe the should focus on the underlying roots of the whole issue. How about taking a look at economic inequality as a possible trigger of inferiority and and resentment. Then pass bills that can actually shift the balance between upper, middle and lower class.
What about taking out the history of racism from our schools? I don’t think anyone would really be racist if they didn’t know it existed. No one asks “why”. They just see the crime as punishable, go through with the punishment, and call it a day. What a GREAT long term solution………
How about focusing on the “why” instead of everyone acting like kids and removing a symbol that doesn’t translate into any meaningful change. The flag is down. Now what? Seriously, now what? I want someone to please comment below and tell me what’s suppose to happen now? How is this a long term solution to addressing crime similar to the shootings of Dylann Roof?
There aren’t enough stoic problem solvers these days. The end is to reduce or eliminate crimes like this is possible. Removing the flag doesn’t add to that goal. It just makes the little kids happy.
Don’t get me wrong. I don’t give a shi’t about the flag to begin with because it only means what people want it to mean and I don’t put meaning on things. I’ll put meaning on a car or a washing machine because they mean transportation and clean clothing to me, but not flags or bandannas or whatever.
Going back to the why and figuring out where the racism, resentment and violence emerged from and addressing them can help with reducing possible crimes like this. After all, I’d rather keep my family living in a safe world, rather than losing them and avenging them…..
