Robocop and Terminator were the bad ass characters of the 90’s. Every kid had a Terminator or Robocop toy with an arm or leg missing. Back then, we didn’t know you can snap the leg back onto the action figure if the join is still intact, but we played with them anyway.
As an adult, however, looking back at Robocop makes me want to throw up. Not only was the movie a piece of shi’t, Robocop himself was as corny as a Power Ranger. People usually reference Robocop in context of crappy movies. If you want to use an analogy to make your friend understand how bad a movie was, you’d probably say “it’s sort of like Robocop”. Enough said, point taken.
Robocop Reboot
In the recent years, there have been many great reboots to the superhero world. Robocop isn’t exactly a hero, but if you were a kid growing up in the 90’s, he still counts as one.Man of Steel was actually a good attempt at making a corny character fit into modern society. I still didn’t care much for the movie, but for a Superman movie, it was great. The Batman series was probably the best to date. Spiderman had a successful reboot as well.
The Robocop reboot looks pretty up to date. For one, his doofy suit looks sleek and stylish with an updated color. The story looks a little deeper than a cyborg beating up bad guys. His family looks much more involved in this one. From the trailer, you can see he still has some of his old school tricks up his sleeve.
From the trailer alone, it seems those involved in the reboot are aware of most issues which made Robocop the deformed, but memorable child of the 90’s. If done right, Robocop can be a huge hit. The story looks very different from the original. Even the event that had him put in the Robocop situation is completely new ( I can’t say I didn’t love the way the completely roasted him in the original though!!) .
I have faith that this movie will definitely reinvent Robocop for good. Forget the clunky cornball of the 90’s, this new, slick looking bad ass is coming to get the bad guys in 2014 and I’ll be there to see it!
