Is fruit healthy? How about diet coke?
……………….Is baking soda safe to use?……….is tobacco healthy?…..
Natural Doesn’t Automatically Mean Healthy or Safe
Fruit is the perfect example of this. I’m not only talking about the sugar in fruit being unhealthy in moderate quantities. Think about wild berries as well. There are poisonous ones out there. They are natural, but they aren’t healthy for you. Same goes for mushrooms and certain fish.
Think about plants as well. You can rub catnip on you to help keep mosquito’s away, but what happens if you rub the wrong plant on you? Say poison ivy? Yeah, it sucks.
Unnatural or Processed Doesn’t Automatically Mean Unsafe or Harmful
I agree that when it comes to food, going naturally is usually the best way to go. Not everyone is willing to do research, so going the natural way is generally a good idea. However, that doesn’t mean that something that is unnatural or processed is harmful.
Baking soda is the best example of this. Baking soda is an industrial waste product. Yet, it has so many great uses and is harmless when ingested. In fact, some people use it to help deal with an upset stomach. You certainly cannot find baking soda in nature.
Diet Soda is another example. While I cannot say that diet soda is healthy, I can say that sugar is extremely unhealthy. There hasn’t been much research done on the effects of artificial sweeteners, but so far, there has been nothing major documented. Milk is processed to remove harmful bacteria, it doesn’t make the milk bad for you (not the processing at least)
Research is Key
In the end, all that matters when consuming or applying something is how your body reacts to it. Often times, the natural option is your best bet, but be mindful that not everything man made is bad.
