It actually wasn’t that hard. Once I realized the science behind weight loss, I was able to customize my meals effectively, no matter where I was eating. I learned that simple carbohydrates are the primary culprit when it comes to weight loss.
By simply avoiding sugary sodas, grains, starches and condiments (ketchup, honey mustard, BBQ sauce), I was storing less sugar and letting my body burn fat. Carbohydrates are converted into glucose once they enter the body and whatever isn’t used for energy is stored in our fat cells by the hormone insulin.
During my weight loss journey, I worked as a delivery specialist for BMW. The hours were random and the days were long. I didn’t know when I would get home and when I did, I was too tired to cook. McDonalds was my savior here.
When all else failed, McDoubles with no onions, no ketchup and no bun always did the job for me. For the onions, I’m not really a fan of them, so that was personal. But by taking off the ketchup and bun, I changed my McDouble from unhealthy fast food to a decent on the go meal.
Sometimes I’d bring a few servings of my homemade mayonnaise to work in order to add some extra, healthy fat to my meal. All it takes is egg yolk, extra light olive oil, salt, pepper and a squeeze of lemon. I whisk up a big batch for the week and bring a little every week to put on whatever quick meals come my way.
McDonalds was my best friend because of it’s price and availability. They are located all over the place and a lot of them were 24hrs.
There’s a lot of bad air around fast food and cheap chains when it comes to health, but when you know what to look out for, you can make out pretty well by customizing your orders.
