Deck the Halls with NYSC Bullshi’t!
I can’t see the humor in this because my sense of smell is overwhelmed with bullshi’t. I guess it’s true what they say about your senses. I can’t care less about their distasteful advertisement. Howard Stern has done that for years and it’s worked. What bothers me is their information.
The two ways they mention as a measure to avoid gaining weight for the holidays are WRONG and WRONG.
First off, they’re trying to imply that conscious overeating or poor will power is responsible for weight gain. Again, WRONG. I can STUFF myself with turkey and ham (if I ate ham) all holiday with my green vegetables and not see a pound.
It’s not about how much you eat, it’s about what you eat. Stuff your face with insulin spiking carbs like mashed potatoes and canned cranberry shi’t and you’ll see your weight go up. If you work the turkey, ham and eat your greens, you have nothing to worry about.
Don’t tell that to NYSC though because they cash in on the whole calorie balance bullshi’t. You can check out my previous article about the myth of calorie counting for more details.
The second point they’re trying to drive home is that by joining the gym, you’re going to avoid weight gain during the holiday. WRONG AGAIN. Unfortunately, this is one point that’s hard to drive home, but I’ll quote the Swedish Council on Health Assessment Technology here:
Systematic reviews of the literature show that the addition of physical activity to a dietary intervention for individuals with obesity have, if any, a marginal effect on weight loss at the group level
Not only that, but there are even recent studies like this one that show that exercise isn’t all that helpful in losing weight. NYSC better get their shi’t together and pick up a book. Hell, I’ll send them a link to my blog, maybe they can learn a thing or two.
Remember kids, insulin takes excess carbs out of the bloodstream and stores them in fat tissue. If you don’t want to get fat, reduce the carbs. When you have less insulin storing energy (carbs), now your body will release some of that stored energy for use. You get leaner. I wish NYSC got the picture. Well…………They probably do, but they can’t sell a healthy diet, only memberships.

Yeah that ad is beyond terrible. Not only is their information wrong, it’s not even comical or appealing. It seems like its come to the point now where the ultimate excuse of the ‘holidays’ halts anyone’s plans for losing weight before it ever begins… But to make themselves feel like they’re doing something about it, they can join a gym. Because they *belong to a gym, and pay dues, makes them feel like they accomplished something. Really lame that NYSC plays into that despite the reality of how it works. Gyms thrive as a business because of the holidays and beach season. Get people to sign for something paying on monthly basis all year long, only for the signee to show up for 2 months worth of their New Years resolution. Genius in terms of revenue, since an unused membership is basically residual income, but shameful in the way it’s advertised as a place centered around health and wellness. Don’t eat? Really…
