Those who don’t vote are often looked down upon for not participating in the “future” of our country or not doing their part as a citizen. In reality, most people aren’t voting because they just don’t care.
There are pressing, immediate problems in their lives and it’s hard for a lot of people to think about anything long term outside of that. Some call it irresponsible as they’re not investing in their future by voting for a representative they feel can make that change.
With that being said, that’s not the reason why I choose not to vote. My reasons are a little more deliberate.
First, I’d like to just explain my views about politics quickly. Politics is an attempt for people to control problematic side effects of a given society. Think about that for a second. The more complex a society is, the more rules, laws and regulations they tend to have. My problem with politics is that unlike science, it only solves surface issues rather than root problems.
One big example is crime and the war on guns. There are strong correlations between violence and equality, mainly poverty. Respect, due to separation of class and scarcity of resources are the biggest behavioral evidence behind crime. Politics attacks the surface, looking for gun laws and better regulations rather than improving the quality of life for people under these conditions.
Trying to raise the minimum wage in a system where inflation is growing at a rate much higher than minimum wages are growing is insanity.
Politicians make us believe they have the answers to hunger, poverty, the energy crisis, global warming, crime, auto accidents, etc.
Does our current president have any applicable knowledge about hydroponics and food cloning? No.
Does our current president know anything about resource distribution outside the context of money? Maybe a sharing program or a sustainable resource based economy? No.
Does our president know how to engineer and implement systems of geothermal, solar or wind energy? No.
Is our president adept enough in social and environmental engineering to directly address conditions that are responsible for maladaptive side effects? No.
Does our president know enough about chemical engineering and Natural science to plan and address environmental hazards such as global warming? No.
Is our president well informed in engineering automotive safety and city architecture to address traffic jams, car accident and wasteful resources? No.
So I have to ask myself, what the Hell does he know? What the Hell is the president good for?
The short answer is nothing that matters. There’s a big illusion that we’re electing leaders who are looking to make a change. In the last 30 years, that has yet to happen. Our elected officials just patch up a crappy system that’s falling apart and wage war on other nations.
No new developments or drastic changes have been put in place. We didn’t switch to an alternate fuel source or altered our monetary based system to one that fits the technological and social advancements of our time.
That’s right. Our elected officials are elected to keep things the same. They’re just a bunch of rich people that don’t know about anything other than money. Micromanaging a failing system with no knowledge of the science behind human needs is a pretty pathetic attempt at being a president, don’t you think?
That’s the long reason as to why I don’t vote. I’m not putting my vote to support people who don’t know the real problems of our times and how to address them.
